Dental Implants

While missing teeth can cause feelings of self-consciousness, covering the smile with the hand, or avoiding social situations altogether, tooth loss goes far beyond mere appearances. Of course, feeling confident can have its benefits too!

Dental Implants to Replace Missing Teeth

At Dr. William Cheung and Associates, we have three dentists with surgical training on dental implants Dr. Stefani Cheung, Dr. Ben Chow, and Dr. Simon Ho, to replace missing teeth and restore the smile. The entire dental implant process can take place right here in our Central Hong Kong dental practice for the convenience of our patients.

Who Qualifies for Dental Implants?

To determine if a patient is a candidate for dental implant treatment, our dentists will perform a full evaluation using technology, such as digital imaging, to identify that adequate bone is present to support the dental implant post.

CBCT imaging, also known as 3-D imaging, supplies our clinical team with the information needed to plan for dental implant surgery and to formulate a treatment plan designed for each patient based on their oral health condition.

What Happens in the Event of Bone Loss?

Tooth loss can lead to the loss of the bone that once supported the missing tooth. If insufficient bone is present to support the dental implant, additional procedures such as bone grafting and sinus lifts make implants possible.

How Dental Implants Work

Dental implants consist of three main parts:

  • The implant post
  • Abutment (attachment)
  • Dental implant crown

Implant posts, also called screws, fuse with natural bone to stabilize the dental implant. The custom abutment is an attachment that secures the dental crown to the implant post. A dental implant crown, designed to look like a real tooth, completes the chewing surfaces and restores the appearance of the smile.

Dental implant treatment typically takes several months. After surgery, we allow time for the bone to fully heal. While each patient is different, it usually takes between three and six months. If patients smoke, it could take longer.

Once the implant fuses with the bone, your Hong Kong dentist will place a customized dental crown atop the dental implant.

Benefits of Dental Implants

Many people find that dental implants have a number of health and cosmetic benefits.

Stable – dental implants will not shift
Esthetic – dental implants look very much like natural teeth
Preventive – help maintain the bite
Long-lasting – with proper dental care, dental implants have the potential to last a long time

Dental Implant Dentistry

For denture wearers and individuals who have multiple missing teeth, dental implant-supported dentistry can provide a solution.

Dental implant bridges rely on dental implants rather than healthy, existing teeth to support a dental bridge.

Dental implant dentures are secured in place using four (like All-on-4®) to six dental implants to lock dentures into place to prevent troublesome movement while eating or laughing.

Frequently Asked Questions

We recognize that each patient is unique and never make sweeping recommendations based on opinion without first speaking to each client to discuss their goals for their smiles. What works for one person may not be the solution for the next, and since we offer bespoke dentistry in our Central Hong Kong dental office, we will talk to you at your consultation to learn more about what you want for your smile.

Some of the teeth replacement options we offer include:

Dental implants – Dental implants replace the entire tooth, including the root, which has the benefit or reducing bone loss.

Fixed dental bridges – Dental bridges are a nonsurgical solution to one or more missing teeth and rely on healthy adjacent teeth to support an artificial tooth in the gap.

Partial dentures – Multiple missing teeth can be replaced with a removable partial denture. Our dentists will closely match the artificial teeth to the surrounding natural teeth for esthetic results.

Complete dentures – Complete dentures provide a solution for patients who have all of their teeth missing on the upper arch, lower arch, or both.

Implant dentures and bridges – Dental implants can provide a secure solution to hold dentures in place. Dental implant bridges rely on dental implants to hold an artificial tooth in place rather than requiring alteration to healthy teeth.
